Sometimes the road is long, slow, and difficult; while other times it is a bit more relaxing and easy. This weekend (July 24, 2021) we wanted to go out camping and look around for a bit of land in Northern Nevada, but time was not our friend so we took a quick run throw Lovell Canyon.

Lovell Canyon is on the right side of the road between Vegas and Pahrump heading toward Pahrump Nevada.

I read a bit about Lovell Canyon Road from Trails Off-Road and it looks like an easy few hours to get out of the house. So we head out and did the run.

Overall; I think we saw 5 or 6 trucks; 4 RVs; and 2 motorcycles on the road or camping; so not too busy, but also not isolated. It is nice for a quick weekend, or overnight to get away from the city; 90% of the road is paved. Tons of camping spots that are easy to access. If I had to test new camping gear; this would be a great spot. I checked cell phone coverage a few times and I didn't get any cell phone service, and that is a bit of a bummer.

We often go to harder or at least more remote spots; which take more time and more energy, but this spot was nice enough. If I had a small family with kids and I slowly wanted to get back into camping; I would consider this. When I was younger (30+ years ago) my grandparents took me to Mt. Charleston. In some ways, this reminded me of the Mt. Charleston I remembered as a kid. However, today Mt. Charleston is so busy and you have to book a camping spot, pay and this just seems like renting an "outdoors" hotel room. At Lovell Canyon, you find a spot, pitch a tent, relax, and have fun.

This spot is perfectly between, curated camping in a national park service site and completely dry camping a million miles away from people. I am hoping to go back in a few weeks and just relax there.

The way I think about it is; you can stay home and stress over life and problems OR you can take a 1-hour trip outside of Vegas, pitch a tent and relax for a day or two.

For a quick and easy getaway around Vegas - what do you suggest?
