Ever since I was a little kid, bugs have been attracted to me; I get bitten by anything that moves—ants, especially, seem to find me irresistible. To bugs, I'm like an all-you-can-eat buffet in Vegas. You have no idea; wherever I go, I end up getting bitten. When Alice and I go camping, hiking, or to a picnic, I end up with bites on my arms and legs, while she remains bite-free.

I've read research on this—there are various reasons, but honestly, it doesn't matter because I've tried different methods to prevent getting bitten, and none have worked. So, after getting bitten, what to do? That is the million-dollar question. I've tried all different types of creams, both prescription and over-the-counter. Some help more than others, but none really work effectively.

Normally, I just have to use alcohol or something similar to dry it out and then take a small razor to cut it open. When I was a kid, my grandmother (Gaga) had an old Midwest farmer's home remedy, which was a mix of half baking soda and half meat tenderizer (and, for some reason, I thought it included a small amount of salt). That works better than anything else

However, in the last year, I have fallen in love with the Beurer BR60 Insect Sting and Bite Relief. I love it so much that I've bought three of them—one for home, one for the truck, and one for the overnight bag.

So, first, a warning—these devices heat up the skin to just before a first-degree burn to break down the toxin in the bite through denaturation. Here's the trade-off: you can endure a small amount of pain for about 6 seconds and then experience no more itching from that bite, or do nothing and have the bite itch and bother you for weeks.

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. I'm not sure if other companies or brands make something similar, but for me, this device has changed my life. I turn it on, press the button, place it over the bite, and wait 3 or 4 seconds. Then, the itching is gone. It is the BEST THING EVER!
