Maximizing Space: Storage and Lockers for Overlanding

4Runners, Tacomas, and Jeeps often have an advantage due to the vast availability of aftermarket parts for customization. The GX460 is gradually establishing itself as a formidable platform for overlanding. I'm passionate about camping and escaping my daily routine, which typically starts at 5 a.m. and ends around 9 p.m. on the computer. Given my time and financial investment, taking a break from digital screens is crucial for me. So, I'm looking for an efficient storage solution. My criteria include:

  • Compatibility with a GX460
  • Suitable for use with the third-row seats removed
  • Quiet operation to avoid constant rattling during drives
  • Ability to integrate a fridge slider

I am still unsure about what to get or buy, but if you have any ideas, let me know.

Also, a shout-out to American Adventure Lab. They are a Utah-based company that makes storage units. I drove up last year to meet with the owner. We discussed making a custom storage unit for the GX460, which will most likely be my route.

I love the idea of this - you buy a frame ( LEXUS GX460 PLATE SYSTEMS ) then you can buy different drawers. Very cool system do far.

So far I have been really happy with Dobinson products, much happier than I thought I would be to be honest. So that is a big plus for them. While I am still not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but their system is SIMPLE, buy it and install it - no configuration changes or anything.

Big County has 2 different styles - a floor mount style ( what am looking for) and a seat mount option. While it is not super important, they stress that the floor mount just screws into the bottom of the floor - again super nice and easier.

While I love Frontrunner (they made my rack - which is a great rack), you don't have to remove the 3rd-row seats with this system.
